Community Wellbeing & Housing Committee – 18 November

Public Questions

Question 1 from Jason Camis:

Recognising more than a year has passed since the Leisure Operating contract moved from Everyone Active to Places Leisure, would the Committee please confirm in what the dilapidations sum received from Everyone Active has been invested at Sunbury Leisure Centre.

In the event the full sum received have not been reinvested, would the Committee please confirm the scope and timetable of the investment?

Question 2 from Jason Camis:

Preamble:

Publicity in Summer 2024 heralded that Spelthorne Council had been awarded just under £995,000 by the Government and Sport England to add solar panels and replace old gas boilers with heat pumps at Sunbury Leisure Centre. The award represented the highest grant given to any authority in the South East and was due to be spent by March 2025. The grant conditions were accepted under delegated authority by Terry Collier in his capacity as the Councils Statutory Chief Financial Officer.

Would the Environment and Sustainability Committee confirm gas usage at the centre has been reduced to zero as a result, taking a big step towards meeting the Council’s carbon reduction targets and if the benefits anticipated have not been achieved, would the Committee please explain why?
